Ugandan model and beauty Queen Judith Heard wants to use her position and influence to grow the sport of boxing in the country and the possibility beyond.

Heard, who is also an ambassador for boxing in Uganda and Africa, is inspired by her ghetto background.

She believes in the famous Bobi Wine (former presidential candidate Robert Kyagulanyi) notion that ‘being born in the ghetto is not a crime, but failing to uplift yourself from the ghetto is.’

“Of course, I lived in the Ghetto, and I believe a lot in the ghetto youths,” Heard told Pulse Sports in Bugoloobi.

Former Health Minister and Uganda Boxing Federation patron Capt Mike Mukula had hosted the bomber who had won medals at the Africa Elite Boxing Championship in Cameroon Yaounde.

“My love for boxing started because I wanted the best for these boxers,” Heard noted before adding.

“When you see those kids boxing in the Ghetto, they are doing it for fun, but they know they are boxers and work every day to get better. But they need to give these boys and girls a chance to expose their talents.

“When I reached out with Moses (Muhangi – UBF president), and with my love for the Ghetto, I thought using my fame to support Ugandan boxing was best.”

The actress also added: “So that we can have more attention to it and have more boys and girls achieve their dreams; that is how it all started.”

Heard is an ardent follower of the UBF Boxing Champions League, which he believes has contributed immensely to the development of the confident mindset and attitude of the boxers.

Despite Wasswa Ssali and Erina Namutebi's incredible silver medal achievements, the team is grappling with financial constraints that threaten their run-up to the 2024 Paris Olympics qualifiers.

“When I joined, the boys were not sure where it was heading, but with time, they embraced it; their confidence was growing, and they knew how to take anyone on, which was terrific.”

“It shows that Uganda’s boxing future looks good, but what have we done to encourage more young girls and boys to join it?” she asked.

“I think it is about time we focus so much on boxing because it will bring more money to the country and help more boys and girls achieve their dreams instead of getting wasted in the Ghetto, going to jail or dying young.”

Heard is a Ugandan fashion model and event host; she was crowned Miss Africa in Miss Elite Awards 2021 from Egypt and Miss Environment International Africa 2022 in Mumbai, India.
