After defeating three opponents on his path to the Africa Elite Men's and Women's Championships lightweight finale, Wasswa Ssali is confident of making history in Yaounde, Cameroon.

Speaking ahead of the ultimate showdown, Ssali revealed that he is motivated by his mother, who backed him to return home with a lot of money.

"My mother urged me to return home with a lot of money. I owe her that," he said before adding, "I am so happy to have reached this milestone."

"Any opponent who comes my way knows what to expect. I am an animal. All I want is gold. Bwaise anticipates my return as a champion."

Arguably the most impressive boxer in the Uganda Bombers camp, the Lukanga Boxing Club pugilist has defeated three opponents advancing from the preliminaries, quarterfinals and semifinals.

He outpointed Irungu Maina of Kenya in the round of 16 and defeated Burkina Faso boxer Naba Ousmane to qualify for the semifinals. He has added DRC's Idris Kitangila to his rich list of victims.

Wasswa will either walk away with a gold or silver medal in the grand finale of the men's lightweight category. Significantly, we will pocket either Shs36m or Shs54m if he loses or wins.

Solomon Geko (Heavyweight), Erinah Namutebi (light welterweight) and Nakalema Emily (welterweight) will hope to emulate Wasswa as they take on the semifinals Friday, August 4.
