Uganda's sole representative at the 2023 IBA Men's World Boxing Championships in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, Isaac Zebra Ssenyange Jnr, started off on a glorious note.
Ssenyange Jnr is the son of the fallen professional boxer Zebra Isaac Ssenyange "Mando", who was fatally killed by shooting in December 2020.
Fighting in the elite men's 67-71 Kg Light Middleweight category, he beat Greek boxer Ritzakis Thodoris in his opening bout.
He was declared the winner of the bout by RSC after overwhelming his opponent.
Before the fight, Ssenyange Jnr noted that he was driven by passion for representing Uganda at the championships using his private funds and looked forward to winning his first bout.
"What pushed me to the world games is passion. So, it's an honour to be here at the world games", he told NBS Sport.
"I fundraised from friends and family, friends of my dad both in Uganda and abroad. I have many people who believe in my crazy dreams and ambitions, and I will win my first fight," he added.
According to Ssenyange Jnr, he was wholly funded by friends of his father, family and friends.
