The African Boxing Confederation (AFBC) will reward a total of $ 1 million to the best performers at the 2023 Africa Elite Men's and Women's Boxing Championships.

Bombers will have one more reason to punch harder when the Africa Elite Men's and Women's Boxing Championships roll off in Yaounde, Cameroon on Friday 28th July.

This is after the African Boxing Confederation (AFBC) decided to spread the money prize to the quarterfinalists.

According to the new structure, boxers who will lose in the quarterfinals will receive $1,250 (approx. shs. 4.5 million).

“In order to spread the $ 1 million prize money at stake, the African Boxing Confederation (AFBC) has decided to pay each of the losing quarter-finalists $1,250,” the secretary of the Competitions Committee, Lukelo Willilo, was quoted by AFBC media.

The move will see the total prize for the gold medallists reduced from $20,000 to about $15,000, while the silver and gold medallists receive $10,000 and $5,000, respectively.

Jonah Kyobe and Yusuf Nkobeza won bronze for Uganda in Maputo last year, while Owen Kibira and the Bombers captain Joshua Tukamuhebwa lost in the quarterfinals.

A total of 17 boxers will represent Uganda at the championships this year.
