Uganda's boxing stars, Yusuf Nkobeza and Owen Kibira, kicked off their title defenses in the Uganda Boxing Federation's Champions League with impressive victories on Saturday at Club Obligatto in Kampala.

Nkobeza and Kibira, both seasoned members of the national team with extensive international experience, lived up to expectations despite facing determined opponents.

Nkobeza, the bronze medalist in the middleweight category at the Africa Boxing Union, engaged in a captivating five-round bout against newcomer Ronald Nsamba.

Nkobeza went all out against Nsamba, who displayed great resilience to withstand the attacks of the experienced boxer until the final round.

However, Nkobeza's desire for an outright victory caused him to lose focus on his defenses, allowing Nsamba to land several punches that could have been avoided.

In the closing minute of the final round, Nsamba seized his opportunity and delivered a flurry of punches to Nkobeza, who had momentarily lost concentration.

Nevertheless, it was too late to alter the outcome, as Nkobeza emerged victorious with a unanimous 5-0 decision.

In the welterweight (67 kg) category, Kibira, who represented Uganda in the 2022 Olympics, demonstrated his clinical skills by displaying swift movements and skillfully evading Mathias Kyeyune's offensive tactics.

Kibira's technical superiority and agility proved too much for Kyeyune to handle, leading to another victory for Kibira through a unanimous decision.
