Nigeria begins preparation for Kickboxing World Championship

KFN organized two-day tryouts that was designed to find the top kickboxing athletes to represent Nigeria at the upcoming Kickboxing World Championship in Albufeira, Portugal.

Ahead of the Kickboxing World Championship, the Kickboxing Federation of Nigeria (KFN) has commenced preparation for the event.

The trials that was held at the Old Parade Ground in Abuja's Area 10 drew about 50 boxers, were held to ensure that Nigeria sends a competitive squad to the international tournament in November.

Kevin Onyika, the Technical Director of the KFN, declared the recently finished National Open Trials a success, expressing happiness with the outcome.

He was pleased with the level of participation and the athletes' performance during the trials.

He highlighted that the trials were intended to be fair and transparent, allowing all athletes to demonstrate their skill and assuring the selection of the best individuals to represent Nigeria.

The trials' relevance was expanded upon, with the explanation that they avoid the unintended elimination of talented athletes during the selection process.

The KFN's goal was to choose athletes who would help Nigeria have a strong presence at the World Championship.

Bello Basit, one of the athletes who competed in the open trials, stressed his willingness to presenting the country with exceptional representation if he is chosen.

The athletes are keen to make Nigeria proud on the international stage at the World Association of Kickboxing Organization (WAKO)-organized championship.
