Aweko named the best bowler at the Victoria Series tournament Uganda hosted in March, was speaking to Alison Mitchell on the BBC World Service cricket magazine show Stumped.
The Victoria Pearls captain Consy Aweko has highlighted the plight that cricket players go through to get the standard equipment required while on the national team or club duty.
Aweko named the best bowler at the Victoria Series tournament Uganda hosted in March, was speaking to Alison Mitchell on the BBC World Service cricket magazine show Stumped.
On the show, she revealed players' struggles to get modern equipment, mainly due to the lack of cricket equipment stores, forcing them to buy gear whenever they travel.
"The association (UCA) gives us gear which they receive from Bankstown Cricket Club from Australia, but it's not enough since it's also distributed to schools that play the game."
"When we travel (for example, in Namibia), we get the opportunity to visit cricket equipment stores, and that's where we buy bats or spikes for bowling using our allowances to add to what we get."

CRICKET Uganda to host ICC T20 Women's Qualifiers
The revelation was made through a communique released by the Uganda Cricket Association on Monday in which they expressed their readiness to host the competition, which will run from December 7th – 18th.
"It's a challenge for us; at times, you have a loose helmet or a heavy bat, and you can't direct the ball well because you have no option, so if we got modern equipment, it would be great."
Aweko added: "That said, the association has done its best too on the matter; hopefully, we get more equipment, but we need as many cricket equipment stores in Uganda; it will help ease the situation."
The Victoria Pearls might have won two competitions recently, but Aweko says the team needs more games, especially with top cricket teams, to improve their performances.
