CRICKET IPL is Juma's ultimate dream

For the third time in history, Uganda's U-19 cricket team qualified for their third ICC U19 World Cup and played at the 2022 edition in West Indies after appearances in 2004 and 2006.

Captained by Pascal Murungi and Juma Miyagi, the team finished 13th, Uganda's best finish at the ICC U19 Cricket World Cup. From then on, the youngsters' lives have never been the same.

Miyagi, and Murungi were promoted to the senior team, the Cricket Cranes, which came with him earning central that ensures that he gets a monthly stipend from the cricket association.

Miyagi, now an opening bowler for Lawrence Mahatlane's side, revealed to Pulse Sports that it has not been an easy ride, but he is grateful for the journey thus far.

"It's an exciting experience to play for the Cricket Cranes but also a dream come true," Miyagi stated before adding.

"To be able to look after my family with my earnings from the national team is the motivation to keep working hard."

"Riazat Ali Shah is like a brother to me because he has always guides me. Coach Mahatlane has helped the team and me a lot. He has always allowed players to express themselves and corrects them later if they go wrong."

The 19-year-old idolizes England'right-arm fast bowler Jofra Archer who turned out for the Rajasthan Royals in the Indian Premier League.

Playing franchise cricket kike Archer is Mijagi's dream: "My target is to play franchise cricket in the IPL, especially for the Rajasthan Royals."

"Because my role model (Jofra Archer) also played there. At that level, I can assist the national team even better," he added.

Juma Miyagi has represented Uganda in 18 T20 internationals, picking up 27 wickets and has scored 111 runs. He also has five One Day Internationals to his name.
