Up stepped Cosmas Kyewuta during the most important part of the game and his timely three wickets off 36 balls ensured the Kenyans were held at bay as Uganda went on to win by seven wickets.
Cosmas Kyewuta's cricket career reached a memorable milestone on Sunday, June 26, 2022.
Uganda was hosting the ICC Men's World Cup Challenge League B and facing off against Kenya in a crucial match at the Lugogo Cricket Oval. For Kyewuta, this game was a must-win situation that he would never forget.
The stage was set for the derby, Kenya won the toss and elected to bat and oh boy did they cause a scare with Alex Obanda 20 (18) and Rash Patel 14 (24) starting well after 7 overs.
Even though Franko Nsubuga caught Patel which was Uganda’s first wicket, the home side needed more wickets to fall.

Kyewuta says he can only get better, especially after nursing an ankle injury; “2022 was a good year for us without a doubt.”
“Apart from some results we had individual performances from batters and bowlers but all that is in the past, we now focus on 2023.”
“I hope to work on my strength so I am stronger and faster during the year,” he said.
The right-arm medium bowler credits head coach Lawrence Mahatlane who he says improved the bowlers a lot but rues the missed opportunity while in Jersey when he fell ill and was unable to play most of the games.
“I am thankful to coach (Lawrence Mahatlane) for the extras he helped us work on as bowlers, it definitely has helped a lot.”
“I also blame myself a lot after I fell ill and couldn’t play the first three games in Jersey yet I was the main Cricket Cranes bowler but I am now focused on training hard as we prepare for the upcoming T20 qualifier we have in October.”
The Cricket Cranes who have stepped up preparations, especially with strength and conditioning sessions which are helping players shape up are preparing for the upcoming ICC Global T20 qualifiers in October set to be hosted in Kampala.
