The game, which was delayed by rain, later got underway, with Rwanda winning the toss and electing to bat first, setting 88/6.

Rwanda bounced back to winning ways in the Victoria series beating neighbours Kenya by 47 runs on Wednesday at the Lugogo cricket oval.

The game, which was delayed by rain, later got underway, with Rwanda winning the toss and electing to bat first, setting 88/6.

Henriette Therese Ishimwe’s 26 off 18 balls not out and Clarrise Umutoniwase’s 23 runs off 26 balls set the pace, while Sarah Uwera added 19 runs off 19 balls.

Kenya tried to chase, but their batting order collapsed as Rwanda limited them to 41/9 all out, with captain Sharon Juma standing out with 13 runs off 19 balls, including only one boundary.

Ester Wachira’s three wickets off 17 runs were not enough to save Kenya, and captain Sharon Juma says the batting order let them down.

In a battle of the top-ranked teams in the second edition of the Victoria Series, the UAE could not have asked for a better time to have a full-strength side in Lugogo following the arrival of their Fairbreak trio that included the ICC Associate Female cricketer of 2022 Esha Rohit Oza.

“Unfortunately, we lost again; we wanted to field first, which we did, we should have chased that score, but our batting let us down,” Juma noted.

“We just have to apply ourselves better in our next game.”

Rwanda captain Diane Marie Bimenyimana says the change in approach in the game was critical.

“We worked hard for this game; we had a different approach because we wanted to win, and we did. We shall now rest and get back better.”

The win was Rwanda’s first-ever win against Kenya in an ICC-sanctioned match.
