Tanzania picked up arguably the best win of the 2023 Victoria Series when they defeated the United Arab Emirates (UAE) by seven wickets at the Lugogo Cricket Oval on Wednesday morning.

The United Arab Emirates won the toss and elected to bat, with the Gulf state posting 138/5 in 20 overs, but Tanzania chased, posting 140/3 in 17.3 overs.

Kavisha Kumari Nanayakkarewasan Egodage’s unbeaten 44 off 43 was supported by captain Chaya Mughal who knocked 30 runs off 28 balls, with Kushi Mohan coming in handy with 22 runs off 12 balls.

The total looked enough for UAE to defend, but Saum Godfrey Mtae’s 40 runs off 33 balls brought Tanzania on track for the biggest chase at the tournament thus far.

Fatuma Omary Kibasu added 36 runs off 31 balls, while Hudaa Mrisho Omary and Neema Justine Pius picked up 27 and 20 runs off 24 and 15 balls, not out, respectively, as the UAE struggled in the field.

Ester Rohit Oza, Kushi Mohan and Kavisha Kumari Nanayakkarewasan Egodage picked up UAE’s only wickets as Tanzania fought back to win.

The result also means the UAE will look to return to winning ways when they face Uganda on Thursday morning.
