Uganda, by far the most in-form team with seven wins at the tournament, were favourites; Rwanda won the toss and elected to field, limiting Uganda to 65 all out.

It was a tough moment to take in on Saturday afternoon at the Gihanga Cricket Stadium as the Victoria Pearls lost the Kwibuka T20 title to Rwanda by six wickets.

Uganda, by far the most in-form team with seven wins at the tournament, were favourites; Rwanda won the toss and elected to field, limiting Uganda to 65 all out.

The hosts did a perfect job with Uganda's tormentors in Ishimwe Henriette 4/6 and Muhawenimana Immaculate 2/12 standing out.

At the same time, Irera Rosine, Vumuliya Marguerite and Belise Murekatete also picked up a wicket each.

The Victoria Pearls' opening batting pair of Kevin Awino 2(14) and Proscovia Alako 2(7) struggled to pick up momentum leaving Janet Mbabazi 13(20) and Stephanie Nampiina 19(33), the only players in double digits to carry the team. Still, more was needed for Uganda to put up a big lead.

The chase saw Rwanda's Uwase Merveille 17(41), Gisele Ishimwe 13(17), Alice Ikuzwe 12(21), and Ishimwe Henriette's ten not out enable Rwanda post 66/4 to earn a six-wicket victory and win their first Kwibuka T20 tournament.

Lawrence Ssempijja, the Victoria Pearls head coach, blamed the day's result on the playing surface but appreciated his team for the effort.

"It was a tough game, the surface was difficult due to the many games, but the players gave everything, and I am happy," Ssempijja noted.

"I am glad that the young players got experience having played in front of a big crowd, so we shall go back home and polish our mistakes as we prepare for the upcoming tournaments we have,” he added.

The Victoria Pearls will now turn their attention to preparing for the Women's T20 World Cup qualifiers, which they will host on home soil in December.

Zimbabwe, Tanzania, Rwanda, Nigeria and Namibia are some of the countries expected at the showpiece, with the top two teams advancing to the global qualifiers.
