The Victoria Pearls are not any different. As they edge closer to the Victoria series, the Uganda Cricket Association has ensured that their psychological needs are covered.

Edgar Kazibwe, an In-training sport psychologist, was roped in to help the girls ahead of the series.

“The team is in a better place for the time I have been handling them; they have a rich body of knowledge concerning psychological and mental aspects of the game,” Kazibwe told Pulse Sports.

“We have worked on things like managing game situations, working on individual strengths and knowing how to deal with success and failure.”

Kazibwe was part of the Victoria Pearls team that lost all their games during the Namibia tour in April 2022, and he stresses that even though it was a bad display, it helped shape the team mentally on how to handle defeat.

“I was part of the Namibia tour, and it was tough, but we used that chance to learn how to deal with defeat, so I am positive the team is mentally prepared for the series.”

Victoria Pearls’ vice-captain Janet Mbabazi added that the sessions have been vital and come in handy for the team.

“We have been preparing mentally thanks to the psychologist around; one of the areas we’ve been preparing on is being able to deal with the pressure of playing at home,” Mbabazi told this website.

“The idea is just to help you stay away from all the pressure that surrounds you, like texts on the phone, people around you and all, which is great,” she added.

The Victoria Pearls will hope to win the series ahead of Kenya, Tanzania, Rwanda and UAE. The competition gets underway on April 16th at the Lugogo cricket oval.
