Former Liverpool forward Fernando Torres has sealed his first senior coaching role.
Liverpool's iconic former striker Fernando Torres has taken his first major step into management after being appointed head coach of Atlético Madrid's B team in the third tier of Spanish football.
The 40-year-old Spanish legend, who delighted fans at Anfield during a glittering three-and-a-half-year spell, has patiently honed his coaching skills since hanging up his boots in 2019 after returning to Atlético.

Torres has been part of the coaching staff at his boyhood club since 2021 but will now get the chance to stamp his mark in the dugout with the prestigious role of leading Atlético's reserve side per Daily Mail.
The appointment represents a significant career milestone for Torres, who scored 65 goals in 102 games for Liverpool between 2007 and 2011, spearheading Rafael Benitez's era-defining side.

Having cut his teeth with Atlético's youth teams over the past two years, the World Cup winner with Spain in 2010 will now be able to prove he can thrive in the hot seat.
Atlético have a proud tradition of giving their own a chance, with fellow club legend Diego Simeone managing the reserve team before taking over the first team in 2011.

Unfinished Business
While Torres' playing career tapered off after leaving Liverpool for Chelsea in 2011, his bond with the Anfield faithful has never wavered.
The striker once came agonisingly close to winning the Premier League title in 2009, scoring 24 goals as Liverpool finished runners-up.

Now in the technical area, 'El Niño' may still harbour ambitions of one day returning to Merseyside to build on that unfinished business and etch his name into the Liverpool coaching pantheon.
