Reece James' 2023/24 Premier League campaign has been full of disappointment
Chelsea’s Reece James has become the target of mockery after finding himself at the wrong end of the Premier League’s disciplinary records for the current season.
James receives multiple red cards
Despite starting only five matches this season, James has been the recipient of two red cards, with no player in the current campaign receiving more.
The Chelsea captain is currently level on red cards with Sheffield United’s Oliver McBurnie and Tottenham’s Yves Bissouma for sendings off this campaign with all three players getting sent off twice this season.
James sets unwanted Premier League record
Thanks to his second sending-off of the season during Chelsea’s 2-1 win over Brighton, James now finds himself in a disappointing position.
The England international has played only 419 minutes in the Premier League this season, compared to McBurnie’s 1354 minutes, and Bissouma’s 2083 minutes, meaning the Chelsea defender has been sent off with the most frequency of any player this season.
Thanks to his second sending-off of the season, James will now miss Chelsea’s final match of the campaign and could miss the first three matches of next season as well.
