GRASSROOTS Ablaze qualifies for Bayern Youth Cup Nigeria National finals
Ablaze is the first team in Africa to win the tournament and will be at the Unec Stadium in Enugu State for the national finals.
The venue of the competition will be the National Stadium training pitch, the Eagles Club field, and the Nigeria Ports Authority (NPA) field, all in Surulere.
Speaking before the kickoff, the sponsor, Paul Onuora, remarked that the competition is a means of bringing forth the best in young people, emphasizing that participation is not affected by one's nationality or religion.
“I expect the players to be of good behavior, character, and association. You can’t be playing football or any other sport and at the same time, embrace drugs, cultism, armed robbery, and other nefarious activities. You cannot succeed.
“Beyond the tournament, we want to expose the participants to scouts from Europe. We are bringing in some managers and scouts to unearth the hidden talents.”
On his part, Evelyn Okereke, added that the goal of the initiative is to keep kids occupied over this extended break and to provide opportunities for those who are talented.
