Ligue 1 promises to provide a truckload of excitement in Gameweek 32 and these seven key numbers are all you need to know to get the best out of the weekend's action
Ligue 1 action is back this weekend with the crunch clash between Lyon and Marseille taking centre-stage as two traditional giants of the league go head to head.
There will also be a clash between the league’s top and bottom teams, Paris Saint-Germain and Angers, to tantalise the pallets as well as a potential season-definer between third-place Lens and fourth-place Monaco
To better understand the biggest games in Ligue 1 this weekend, here are seven key numbers and why they are important to Ligue 1 Gameweek 32
2
AS Monaco striker Wissam Ben Yedder is the only player in Ligue 1 to be the record goal scorer for two separate teams in the 21st century.
Ben Yedder’s amazing career has seen him score 80 goals for Monaco and 63 goals for Toulouse in Ligue 1, making him the highest goalscorer for both sides in the league in the 21st century.
6
Another Monaco star and one that Ben Yedder will enjoy playing with this season, defender Caio Henrique, has provided six assists from set pieces in Ligue 1, which is more than any other player in Europe’s top five leagues.
He has provided nine assists in total in Ligue 1 from 10 big chances created in what is shaping up to be the most creative season of his career.
He has already equalled his previous best season and still has seven more games potentially to play.
23
PSG’s duo of Lionel Messi and Kylian Mbappe have combined for a total of 23 Ligue 1 goals since the Argentine joined Paris Saint-Germain in the summer of 2021, which is more than double the next best duo in that time, which also happens to be another PSG duo, Mbappe and Neymar, who have combined for 11 goals.
In two seasons of playing together, Messi has assisted 16 of Mbappe’s goals, while the Frenchman has returned the favour seven times.
When PSG face bottom club Angers this Gameweek, Messi and Mbappe will be hoping to continue their impressive partnership and add to their superb tally.
26
Lyon’s Alexander Lacazette could equal Jean Pierre Papin’s 75-year record this weekend. The former Marseille man scored 28 penalties in his time at Stade Velodrome, becoming the player with the most penalties scored for a single Ligue 1 club, and Lacazette, who has scored 26 penalties in his Lyon career, will almost certainly go on to break the record sooner or later.
He could do it as early as this weekend when Lyon battle Papin’s former club Marseille if L’OL can win two penalties against their mortal rivals.
40
With Lyon and Marseille set to lock horns in Gameweek 32 of Ligue 1, it is well worth noting that this fixture has produced the second-most draws in the competition’s history, with 40 stalemates played between the two sides.
Only games between Marseille and Bordeaux have produced more draws (41), and when L’OM take on Lyon on Sunday evening, the fixture could tie the record for the most draws recorded between two teams in the French top flight.
67
Troyes’ 67 goals conceded in Ligue 1 this season is the most of any side in the competition, with bottom side Angers the only other side to have crossed the 60 goals threshold.
They travel to Victor Moses’ Nantes after three consecutive defeats, and their hosts will be hoping to take advantage of the poor form to end their own regrettable recent run in the league.
2008
Lyon vs Marseille is undoubtedly the star match in Gameweek 32 in Ligue 1 and the visitors Marseille will be hoping to complete a league double over their fierce rivals for the first time since 2008, having already claimed victory in the reverse fixture earlier in the season.
With Lyon having a markedly terrible season, Marseille will look at this as a perfect opportunity to get bragging rights over Lyon for the foreseeable future if they can get all three points on Sunday.
