The CS is currently in Belgrade, Serbia, for the Afro Festival 2023, where Kenya is the Chief Guest at the Cultural and Arts festivals.

Sports Cabinet Secretary (CS) Ababu Namwamba on Wednesday, June 28 held talks with the Serbian Football Federation President Dragan Džajić with an aim to establish a partnership to support the growth and development of football in Kenya.

The CS revealed that through the partnership, Kenyan football stands to benefit from Serbia's prowess in exchange for opportunities to utilize Kenya's high-altitude grounds to train Serbian athletes.

"We want to see how we can tap into your pool of coaches to help develop our youth football. We are starting a youth football program and are very keen to get a good coach to help us on this," the CS said.

While lauding Kenya's 60-year friendship with the Serbian government, CS Namwamba noted that the partnership will extend to women's football, which he said was growing in popularity across the globe.

President Džajić assured the CS of the federation's readiness to partner with Kenya in the development of talents towards elevating Kenya's football to the next level. Also present during the meeting was the federation's General Secretary Jovan Šurbatović.

The CS also noted that Kenya will also seek to benefit from Serbian excellence in other sports including tennis, basketball, and volleyball, while in return, Serbia should take advantage of Kenya's prowess in athletics and rugby.
