The Uganda Cranes and Vipers SC winger is one of many players excited about the return of the StarTimes Uganda Premier League, which gets underway in three days.

Lumala, 26, who struggled with injuries last season, can’t wait to start.

At least going by a tweet he shared on Tuesday after his side’s goalless draw against Maroons FC in a preseason friendly at the Luzira Prisons Grounds.

“Last friendly game, am in good shape, I can’t wait to get started,” he tweeted.

The Venoms failed to find the back of the net in their last preseason game as they prepare to start their title defence against Gaddafi FC away on Sunday, 17th September.

Abdu Lumala admitted to struggling with injuries earlier this year due to a lack of a good preseason, something he promised to work on before the start of this upcoming season.

“Last season, honestly, I didn’t have a good preseason; I accept luck wasn’t on my side; I was unfit coupled with lots of injuries but am lucky enough to have supportive people on my side,” he tweeted.

“Doctor Lawrence Mulindwa and Clair Mulindwa, they believe in me so much,” read part of the tweet.

Vipers’ Brazilian tactician Leonard Martins Neiva, AKA Leo Neiva, appointed in July 2023, already started on the wrong foot, losing to Botswana’s Janweng Galaxy on the away goals rule in the CAF Champions League first preliminary round.

Vipers hope to claim a seventh league crown, equaling Express FC’s record in the top flight when the league gets underway.
