OFFICIAL Vipers finally confirm Abdu Lumala's exit

While he played just five times in the entirety of the 2022/2023 Uganda Premier League season, he had featured in each of the games this campaign before suffering a hamstring injury as Vipers beat Kitara FC 2-1 in December.

"Having joined the club as a midfielder, the club has helped me to develop and progress immensely both as a footballer and as a person. I will always be grateful to everyone at the club for what they have allowed me to achieve," Lumala added.

"In a footballers’ career, it’s not often that you get the chance to work with a club that is willing to passionately dedicate so much time and effort to improving and developing players, so I feel very lucky to have enjoyed two years at this great club."

Lumala left after clinching both the Uganda Premier League and the Uganda Cups, as well as playing in the CAF Champions League group stages.

"The memories that I will take from Vipers will stay with me forever. After the journey that we’ve been on and the success that we’ve had."

"Vipers has been great to me over my time here, and I’d like to think that I’ve been good to you, and I leave with the club in a better place. Make no mistake, Vipers is a club that is on the rise and has a very bright future."

The UPL and Uganda Cup titles under head coach Alex Isabirye marked the first time in history that the Vipers were winning a domestic double.

"Winning the domestic double (Uganda Premier League and Stanbic Uganda Cup) last season and qualifying the team for it's first ever CAF Champions League group stages was the biggest honour that I’ve had in my career so far, and I will be eternally thankful to the club for everything that it has done for me. Vipers will always have a special place in my heart."

Lumala's time at Vipers has been massively hampered by injuries that limited him to only 15 league appearances in a season and a half.
