Maroons FC, one of the sides preparing for another campaign, have confirmed their player cleared out, many of them free agents, as the club opted not to renew their contracts.

The player clearout at different clubs is underway as preparations for the new season step up.

“Maroons FC confirms the departure of five players following the expiration of their employment contracts with the club,” read part of the statement.

“Brian Nkuubi, Samson Kigozi and Noel Nasasira leave the club while Brian Kayanja’s loan deal expires and will eventually return to KCCA FC,” part of the statement read.

Interestingly, experienced box-to-box midfielder Abel Etrude stays put, the 31-year-old, who scored three goals and picked up three Pilsner man of the match awards, penned a six-month contract in January, but it expired at the end of the season.

However, Pulse Sports understands that the club hierarchy is set to offer the former Express FC assistant skipper an improved contract to stay in Luzira amidst the different links to different clubs.

The biggest loss to the side remains Simon Tamale, the goalkeeper of the season who put up a top performance managed 13 clean sheets, seven Pilsner man of the match awards and two player of the month awards.

Maroons recently confirmed a three-year contract extension for head coach Mohammed Senfuma who guided the Luzira side back to the top flight in the 2022/23 season and earned the side a sixth-place finish last season.

Senfuma is said to be eyeing several replacements ahead of the new campaign.
