AC Milan's Rafael Leao has been named Serie A player of the month ahead of Napoli's Victor Osimhen
AC Milan’s Rafael Leao has claimed the Serie A Player of the Month for April, beating Nigeria’s Victor Osimhen to the award.
Leao wins second Player of the month award after impressive April
Leao was in superb form for Milan in the month of April, contributing to five goals in five games with four goals and an assist.
He helped Milan stay in the conversation for UEFA Champions League, helping them to two wins and three draws in April.
The Portuguese forward has scored 12 Serie A goals and assisted eight more in 32 league games this season and has been Milan’s best player in the 2022/23 campaign.
The award was Leao’s second Player of the Month honour after winning the October Player of the Month award as well.
Milan hoping to have important Leao fit for season run-in
Leao was able to beat other impressive players to the award including Napoli’s Victor Osimhen and Inter’s Lautaro Martinez to the award with the Milan forward edging both players to the accolade.
Despite a recent injury, Milan’s hopes hinge on Leao returning to fitness and form ahead of a crucial end to their season, as they battle for a place in the UEFA Champions League final this season and a place in the top four in the Serie A table this season.
He is expected to return for Milan against Spezia after missing the UCL semifinal against Inter last week.
