Tosin Adarabioyo has explained why Brighton defeated Enzo Maresca's men in the FA Cup fourth round.

Chelsea defender Tosin Adarabioyo has reacted to the team's FA Cup fourth-round 2-1 defeat to Brighton & Hove Albion

The Blues lost at the Amex Stadium despite taking an early lead, with goals from Georginio Rutter and Kaoru Mitoma either side of a Bart Verbruggen own goal completing the Seagulls' comeback against Enzo Maresca's side, thus eliminating the West London side.

Adarabioyo admitted that Chelsea were punished for lapses in concentration and a failure to create enough chances.

He believes that the team needs to improve their consistency and focus in order to avoid similar defeats in the future.

“We didn’t break them down and create good enough chances to secure the game and we got punished at the other end,” Adarabioyo said. “I see it as a lapse of concentration sometimes.”

The defender also stressed that the team will analyse the game and learn from their mistakes. He is confident that Chelsea will bounce back stronger when they return to the Amex Stadium on Friday night for a Premier League clash with Brighton.

“We just need to continue to push on and start the game well like we did today, then push that through for 90 minutes,” said the Blues defender. “Our main focus is now coming back here on Friday.

“We will analyse this game throughout tomorrow and throughout the week, and we will come back stronger on Friday.”

What next for Chelsea?

Chelsea will be looking to avenge their FA Cup defeat and secure a vital three points in their quest for Champions League qualification.

Maresca’s fourth-placed side are two points clear of Manchester City and Newcastle United and three above Bournemouth in seventh heading into gameweek 25.
