According to the statement, all the top-flight clubs can now field up to six foreign players at a given match.

The Federation of Rwanda Football Association (FERWAFA) has increased the foreign players quota for Rwanda Premier League clubs.

According to the statement, all the top-flight clubs can now field up to six foreign players at a given match.

The federation has also barred the clubs from signing players who are above 30 years unless they have been playing for their respective national teams in the last three years.

“We are writing to inform you that women's and men's first division teams are allowed to field no more than six players per game from the 2023/2024 season,” FERWAFA informed the clubs.

“We take this opportunity to remind you that in order for a foreign player to be registered to receive a playing permit, he must not exceed 30 years of age.

“If he is over that age, the team that registers him is required to show that he has played for his country's team at least three years ago,” the statement directed. The developments come at a time when the country is witnessing an influx of foreign players, with neighbours Uganda leading the trend.

FERWAFA's letter to Rwanda Premier League clubs informing them of the new developments.

Last season, Cameroonian Willy Leandre Onana made headlines after being named the most valuable player and also emerged the top scorer as Ugandan Yaffesi Mubiru came second.
