The Belgian tactician seems to have given up on positive results in the league.
AFC Leopards coach Patrick Aussems seems not interested in seeing his team climb up the Football Kenya Federation Premier League table (FKFPL) but rather using the competition as a 'warm up' of some sort for his side’s FKF Cup semi-final against Kakamega Homeboyz.
Aussems saw his team lose 1-0 to Ulinzi Stars on Wednesday, extending their winless run to seven league games, in what was a toothless display but the tactician insists the result does not matter as long as his side stays in shape for the semi-final scheduled for May 30.

More misery for Aussems men who have not won in the league since March.
The Belgian coach made wholesale changes to his team and the result was a dour display from Ingwe who hardly had a shot at Ulinzi’s goal as Boniface Muchiri’s strike condemned them to the loss.
“I changed 90 percent of the team because the priority and the target was not the game of today (Wednesday). The target is to get 19 players ready for our most important game of the season, the semi-final,” Aussems said after the match.

FKFPL Aussems praises FKF for 'guaranteeing player safety' with fans stadium ban
Leopards have played their last three fixtures without their fans.
“I used this game to check some things. I will use the same (team) for the Nzoia Sugar game and even against Gor Mahia, we will try something to be ready for the semi-final.
“I only have 19 players in the group and I want everyone to be fit until the end of the season. Some of them did not play a lot in the last few weeks, they played against Bidco United last week so I wanted to do the same.
“Each game, I see positives and negatives and today I learnt some things. Today, the result was not important. We are focusing to prepare as well as possible for the semi-final.”
Ingwe have been toothless in the league, drawing four while losing three of their last seven matches, to slip down to ninth on the log, while enjoying a fantastic run in the Cup where they made it to the semi-final following a 3-0 thrashing of Bandari last week and Aussems seems to have put all his eggs in one basket.
Playing against Homeboyz will, however, not be easy given they are currently one of the form teams after winning five while drawing one of their last six matches, including a 6-1 demolition of Kariobangi Sharks in the cup last weekend.

There is also the added rivalry between the two teams who are still smarting from the chaos that saw their league clash abandoned in Kakamega last month, leading to heavy sanctions for Leopards.
The winner of the highly-awaited semi-final will take on either Tusker FC or Ulinzi Stars in the final with whoever is crowned getting the chance to represent Kenya in the CAF Confederation Cup next season.
