Ingwe have to be wary of Simba wa Nairobi who are hungry for one more win to ensure top flight survival
AFC Leopards get back to league action as they take on Nairobi City Stars in a Football Kenya Federation Premier League match at Nyayo Stadium on Monday.
Ingwe saw their hopes of ending the season with a trophy extinguished when they were beaten 2-1 by Kakamega Homeboyz in the FKF Cup semi-final last week, in what coach Patrick Aussems had termed their ‘biggest match of the season.’
Aussems will, however, find it difficult to lift his players from the disappointment of losing the semi-final having invested a lot in the game.
The Belgian tactician had claimed that league matches were just a ‘warm up’ ahead of the FKF Cup clash but he now has to honour the remaining four fixtures.
Leopards have little to play for with the best they can manage being sixth place, which is currently occupied by Bandari FC, who are six points ahead of Ingwe.
This could, therefore, play in the hands of City Stars who are desperate for one more win to ensure safety.
Simba wa Nairobi occupy 15th place on 30 points, seven ahead of Wazito FC, and a win will all but secure their place in the top flight next season.
A draw could still suffice for Nicholas Muyoti’s men as they would require one more point in the remaining three games, given their superior goal difference.
Leopards have experienced a mini revival of some sort in the league after beating Nzoia Sugar and Gor Mahia while City Stars will be hoping to turn draws into wins after recording four straight statements.
