AFC Leopards midfielder Victor Omune is optimistic about his team's chances against Gor Mahia in the upcoming 95th Mashemeji Derby on Sunday.

The much-anticipated fixture, which is part of round 27 of the FKF Premier League, sees Leopards eager to avenge their first-leg loss and boost their standing in the league.

The 30-year-old Omune, who made a move to AFC Leopards from KCB in 2022, has been a key player for the team this season.

"The boys are in great mood as we approach Sunday’s match against our arch-rivals, Gor Mahia. Being the biggest match in the land, the derby comes with some sort of pressure, but we are determined to make our fans proud," Omune shared.

Omune also highlighted the team's preparation and mindset heading into the game.

"Everyone in the camp knows the importance of this match and what is at stake. Playing in the derby is one special feeling because it is a match that has everyone’s attention. We are all focused and looking forward to a good outing," he said.

We are working hard not to let down our fans. They really deserve a win in this match," he noted.

With AFC Leopards ranked eighth in the league with 38 points, the team has shown signs of improvement, winning three of their last six matches, drawing two, and losing just one.

Omune, who has previously scored in the derby, expressed his personal ambition for the upcoming match.

"I would like to score in the Derby again because it has a very special feeling. To our fans, let us turn up in numbers and support the team. We really need you in the stands," he concluded.
