AFC Leopards compete with a European club for a high-profile Rwandan footballer amidst efforts to strengthen their squad.

AFC Leopards will have to compete with Macedonian football giants FC Shkupi for the signature of Rwanda international Arthur Gitego.

The 20-year-old center forward, currently shining for Marine FC in the Rwanda Premier League, has become a subject of intense interest in the football transfer market.

As the ongoing transfer window buzzes with activity Ingwe are strategically aiming to strengthen their squad.

Leopards coach Tomas Trucha has expressed interest in signing two strikers, one midfielder, and two central defenders.

This move comes in light of the team's current performance, where their striking department has only managed 14 goals this season, a tally that ranks second lowest among all clubs.

Reports have emerged that the club has put forth an offer for the Rwandan prodigy, who has only six months remaining on his contract with Marines.

His impressive performance in the first round of the Primus National League and a notable international debut with Amavubi in the 2026 World Cup qualifier against Zimbabwe have notably spiked his value.

Speaking to reporters Gitego confirmed the overseas interest, saying, "It is true I have been offered a three-year deal from FK Shkupi, but we have not made a decision yet."

The young forward's potential move to Macedonia appears alluring, especially considering the pathway previously taken by fellow countryman Abdul Rwatubyaye and the opportunity to participate in European competitions.

While AFC Leopards and Tunisia's CA Bizertin have shown significant interest, Gitego, a product of Centre de Formation, remains undecided about his immediate future.

Meanwhile, AFC Leopards continue to scout for talent to bolster their ranks. The club has been linked with Brian Eshihanda from Kakamega Homeboyz and Humphrey Mieno from Sofapaka.

These potential acquisitions are part of a broader strategy to revitalize the squad, which currently sits in a challenging 12th position in the league, having amassed 21 points from 18 games.
