Injury blow for South Africa as star attacker Thapelo Maseko is a doubt for Nigeria clash.

South African national team, Bafana Bafana, faces a potential setback in their Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) campaign as one of their key players, Thapelo Maseko, is believed to be sidelined for the remainder of the tournament.

The 21-year-old attacker, who plays for Mamelodi Sundowns, sustained an injury during the quarter-final clash against Cape Verde, in which South Africa emerged victorious. This unfortunate development has cast doubts over Maseko's availability for the crucial semi-final against Nigeria.

Maseko's Versatility and Impact

Thapelo Maseko is a versatile winger, capable of playing on both the right and left sides, as well as functioning as an attacking midfielder.

His absence would undoubtedly be felt, as he has been instrumental for his club, Sundowns, this season, contributing with one assist and two goals in 16 appearances across all competitions.

While the extent of Maseko's injury remains uncertain, sources from Ivory Coast, where the tournament is taking place, have revealed that the young star is currently on crutches and will not be able to participate in the remaining matches of AFCON.

The severity of the injury has yet to be officially confirmed, as the national team's medical department has not provided details regarding the expected duration of Maseko's absence.

Bafana Bafana's head coach, Hugo Broos, faces a challenging situation with the potential loss of one of his key players as his team prepares to take on Nigeria in the semi-finals on Wednesday, 7 November
