Super Eagles looking to avenge Guinea Bissau defeat
Nigeria suffered a shock defeat in the first leg of their AFCON 2023 qualifier against Guinea Bissau after Mama Samba Balde’s 29th-minute effort gave the Djurtus their first-ever win over the Super Eagles at the Moshood Abiola Stadium, Abuja.
The loss saw Nigeria drop down the AFCON 2023 Group A standings to second place, behind Guinea Bissau who leapfrogged them thanks to the 1-0 win in Abuja.
With the return leg coming only three days later, the Super Eagles have the chance to regain some pride if they manage to defeat Guinea Bissau in their capital, Bissau, as well.

A video emanating from the official Twitter handle of the Super Eagles showed players in good spirits as they departed for Guinea Bissau.
Despite the enormous pressure on their shoulders to deliver a win for the country, the players appeared calm as they headed off the team bus for the plane to Bissau.
The sides meet again on Monday evening, and the Super Eagles could reclaim the top spot if they beat Guinea Bissau in their own backyard, which they have been charged to do to redeem their image after the reverse fixture loss.
