Nsue has been suspended by Equatorial Guinea over inappropriate conduct during the 2023 AFCON despite finishing top scorer.

The Equatorial Guinea FA  has taken the decision to suspend team captain Emilio Nsue and midfielder Ivan Salvador due to "several episodes of serious indiscipline."

Nsue, 34, made headlines earlier this year by winning the Golden Boot as the top goalscorer at the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

His five goals in four appearances played a crucial role in Equatorial Guinea's performance during the tournament.

In an official statement released on Tuesday, the national FA announced Nsue's suspension for "serious indiscipline," stating that he will be unavailable for international duty until further evidence is presented.

During AFCON, Nsue delivered a standout performance, including a memorable hat-trick in Equatorial Guinea's 4-2 victory over Guinea-Bissau and two additional goals in the 4-0 win over Ivory Coast.

Unfortunately, the team was eliminated from the competition in the round of 16 by Guinea in a 1-0 defeat.

Equatorial Guinea also confirmed the suspension of Nsue's teammate, midfielder Ivan Salvador, aged 28. Salvador's suspension stems from an "unsavory" incident that occurred in the city of Abidjan on January 29, requiring intervention by local police.

The FA emphasized that Salvador's actions resulted in reputational damage to both the team and the nation, leading to his suspension from international duty.

Nsue, who plays for Spanish Primera Federacion side Intercity, has previous experience in English football with Middlesbrough and Birmingham City.

On the other hand, Salvador is currently on loan from Spanish club Ceuta to Miedź Legnica in Poland.

As Equatorial Guinea takes a firm stance on disciplinary matters, the suspensions of Nsue and Salvador underscore the importance of maintaining a positive image and upholding standards of conduct within the national team.
