Was Troost-Ekong named AFCON 2023’s best player on merit?
Cast aside early doors under Jose Peseiro, William Troost-Ekong’s redemption arc at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations means the Man of the Competition prize was not merely a consolation.
The team arrived in Nigeria in the late hours of Monday night, accompanied by the Minister of Sports Development, John Owan Enoh.
Dressed in a green native as opposed to the white they wore on their trip to Cote d’Ivoire, the team was received by supporters at the airport, singing their praises.
Although they failed to win the trophy, the team is expected to meet President Bola Ahmed Tinubu before the players jet back to their respective clubs.
Nigeria will return to action next month when they take on the world champions Argentina in an international friendly.
