Pulse Sports examines how Kenya might line up for their game against Cameroon in their fourth match of Group J in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

Harambee Stars are set to play their fourth AFCON 2025 qualifier this afternoon against Cameroon at Nelson Mandela Stadium in Kampala, Uganda.

The match is a crucial test for Kenya, following their heavy 4-1 defeat in the first leg last Friday in Yaounde where individual errors proved costly.

With three of Cameroon’s goals coming directly from Kenyan mistakes, the Stars will be eager to bounce back and keep their qualification hopes alive.

Kenya has been forced to host this critical match outside of their home soil due to the lack of a CAF-accredited stadium, a challenge that has also affected other fixtures.

Stars arrived in Uganda on Saturday and has since been preparing intensively for this must-win encounter.

Notably, today's match will be held behind closed doors, a strategic decision made by  Football Kenya Federation (FKF) amid concerns that local Ugandan fans might lean in favor of Cameroon.

In terms of lineup, head coach Engin Firat has hinted at potential changes following the first-leg defeat.

One of the most significant areas of focus is the goalkeeping position. Patrick Matasi, who started in Yaounde, struggled under pressure, with his errors contributing to Kenya’s downfall. As a result, Ian Otieno, who plays for Richard's Bay in South Africa’s Premier Soccer League is likely to be handed the gloves.

In defense, Daniel Anyembe and Eric Ouma are expected to retain their places as fullbacks, having completed the full 90 minutes in Cameroon.

Joseph Okumu, who was only fit for the second half in Yaoundé, could partner with Collins Sichenje in central defense if fully fit.

Okumu’s presence would bolster a backline that struggled to contain Cameroon's pace and power.

Kenya's midfield is expected to feature a familiar trio, with Richard Odada and Teddy Akumu playing as a double pivot.

Both players bring defensive solidity and distribution capabilities, which will be key against Cameroon’s high-intensity style.

Further forward, Duke Abuya is likely to reprise his role as an attacking midfielder, tasked with creating chances and linking play between the midfield and attack.

In the forward line, Michael Olunga’s availability remains uncertain due to a lingering injury.

If fit, Olunga will lead the line, but his condition is subject to a late fitness test. Should the Kenyan captain be unavailable, either Jonah Ayunga or John Avire could step in as the central striker.

Timothy Ouma, despite playing out of position is expected to occupy the left wing while Ronney Onyango will likely start on the right.

Kenya’s task is daunting but the Harambee Stars are determined to give their all in this pivotal clash hoping to keep their AFCON 2025 dream alive.

Harambee Stars probable starting XI:

Ian Otieno- Daniel Anyembe, Eric Ouma, Joseph Okumu, Collins Sichenje- Richard Odada, Antony Akumu, Duke Abuya, Timothy Ouma, Ronney Onyango- Michael Olunga
