Kasule missed out on playing at the 2022 CHAN tourney due to unclear reasons after he had racked up six goals and five assists with Wakiso Giants in the first round of the StarTimes Uganda Premier League.

A national team call-up is every player's dream; for Owen Baba Ibrahim Kasule, January 2022 remains one of the most challenging periods in his career.

Kasule missed out on playing at the 2022 CHAN tourney due to unclear reasons after he had racked up six goals and five assists with Wakiso Giants in the first round of the StarTimes Uganda Premier League.

The New York Red Bulls II diminutive midfielder was summoned by Cranes head coach Multin Micho Sredejovic ahead of the final 2023 AFCON qualifier against Niger.

Kasule says it was only a matter of time: "I always say time solves everything."

"I have been waiting for the opportunity to come my way since I didn't make the CHAN final squad," Kasule told Pulse Sports from his base at the big apple.

"I didn't put my head down; it encouraged me to work harder every day to earn another call-up."

"So I hope to use the opportunity to the best of my ability because playing for the Cranes means a lot to me," he added.

Kasule has scored ten times and assisted seven goals for the New York Red Bulls II team in the MLS Next Pro League.

Kasule and 32 others named in the provisional squad will be tasked with guiding the Uganda Cranes to the 2023 AFCON tournament set to take place in January in Ivory Coast.

The squad is expected to start residential camp on Monday, 21st August, at the Paradise Hotel in Kisasi Kampala.

Uganda, who are in group F and sit third on four points, will face Niger on 7th March at the Grand stadium of Marrakesh in Morocco in a must-win game and hope Algeria beats Tanzania for them to qualify.
