This follows ratification of drastic changes to the tournament format proposed to the FIFA Council to increase the number of participants to a 32-team tournament under a new format.

International football governing body FIFA has announced that Africa will have up to four representatives at the Club World Club from 2025.

This follows the ratification of drastic changes to the tournament format proposed at the FIFA Council level to increase the number of participants to a 32-team tournament under a new format.

The new changes will also see the tournament dates changed from February to June and July.

This means that the Confederation of African Football (CAF), Asian Football Confederation (AFC), Confederation and Confederation of North, Central America, and the Caribbean Association Football (CONCACAF) will have four participants each.

The South American CONMEBOL will have six teams, one from the Oceania Football Confederation (OFC) and 12 from UEFA.

The last spot will go to the country that will host the tournament. It remains to be seen what criteria will be used to allocate these slots.

For example, by 2025, CAF will have launched another continental competition, the African Super League to go with the Champions League and the Confederations Cup.

In the case of the European teams as well, it is unknown how many teams will come from the Champions League, the Europa League or even the Conference League.

Africa is currently represented by only one team – the winners of the Champions League – in the seven teams that play in the tournament.

Morocco’s Wydad Casablanca represented the continent at the recent Club World Cup held in Morocco that saw Real Madrid seal their fifth victory in the tournament in style, defeating Saudi Arabia’s Al Hilal 5-3.

Victory in the Club World Cup completed a spectacular century of trophies for Real Madrid, the 100th trophy in their history in a record that includes 35 La Liga, 19 Copa del Rey and 14 Champions Leagues.
