Former Manchester City striker Sergio Aguero has encouraged Barcelona president Joan Laporta to do his best to ensure Lionel Messi’s Camp Nou return
Lionel Messi joined PSG from Barcelona in 2021 on a two-year contract. The circumstances surrounding his Barcelona exit caused confusion and anger among fans.
Barcelona’s financial situation became incredibly difficult to manage and club President, Joan Laporta was unable to register Messi to a new contract.
That allowed the Argentine World Cup join Paris Saint-Germain on a two-year contract worth €30million per year.
The contract signed with PSG included the option of a third year agreeable upon by both parties. However, Messi is yet to commit to a contract extension or even reveal his plans beyond the summer.
Former Barcelona stars call for Messi's return
Barcelona midfielder Sergi Roberto called for Messi’s return and now, former Manchester City and Barcelona striker Sergio Aguero has joined the chorus for Messi’s return.
“I think Laporta should do the effort in order to bring him back,” Aguero said, speaking to the Kings League, the Gerard Pique project that combines football and online streaming.
“I think Leo was born as a footballer in Barcelona, and he should retire in Barcelona.
“I think if Laporta does that step to call Messi and reunite their positions personally, everything will be much closer to happening.
“My feeling is that it is 50-50 that he will return.”
