2022 was a mixed year for the Super Eagles team, but some of Naija's finest were still able to impress with their style off the pitch.
2022 hasn’t been one of the best years in Nigerian football. The Super Eagles of Nigeria suffered a disappointing exit from the Africa Cup Of Nations (AFCON) Round of 16 stage earlier in February, before missing out on the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar, leaving quite a sour taste in the mouth of so many supporters of the 2013 AFCON Champions.
However, in some ways, the year was pretty good for some Super Eagles stars with some players making big moves to the Premier League in the summer transfer window.
And some others significantly improving themselves and their numbers on the pitch individually for their club sides.
While some also continued to achieve greatness in their one leagues sweeping home prestigious accolades of the sorts.
Regardless of the Super Eagles’ shortcomings in 2022 generally, some players still managed to pass the drip check effortlessly.
When it comes to fashion and style within the Nigerian National team, there’s no denying that there has been significant improvement amongst members of the team.
That’s not to say in any way that it’s an outright surprise neither has it ever been an issue, regardless of whether or not the players have really impressed us with their drip game on the pitch or off it or even on social media.
We won’t also take anything from the fact that the Super Eagles have a reputation on the global stage when it comes to style, having been ahead most times when it comes to the best National team kits (both official and training kits).
Full credit to Nike on that front though, having been generous by paying strict attention when it comes to the Super Eagles kits especially in the last three years.
However, in this article, we’ll be ranking the top 10 Super Eagles players that impressed us with their dressing in 2022.
#10 Ola Aina
#9 Leon Balogun
QPR defender Leon Balogun is one of the most active players on social media.
The 34-year-old defender has had a pretty decent year, helping Rangers to the finals of the Europa League last season, before his return to England in the summer.
Balogun was immense in Rangers' success last season domestically winning their 55th championship title. As for his style, the humble centre-back has always opted for simplicity with touches of class, because for him, less is more
#8 Raphael Onyedika
#7 Ahmed Musa
Super Eagles skipper Ahmed Musa is one of the veterans at National team level.
The exemplary leader nicknamed ‘The Governor’ is known for his incredible philanthropy and tat continued in 2022.
Even though, Musa has slowed down notably due to his age, the 30-year-old forward who now plays for Turkish club Sivasspor has always been spot on with his style, by mixing things up when he can.
From his trademark traditional senator wear - in tribute to his northern roots, to sleek casual fits and even formal ones, he’s never afraid to try something new.
#6 Kenneth Omeruo
Leganes captain Kenneth Omeruo has had quite a mixed year generally both at national and club level.
However, his professionalism can not be questioned on any grounds as is his desire to compete when called upon.
The 29-year-old center back has a pretty decent fashion sense going by his posts on Instagram this year.
#5 Victor Osimhen
Super Eagles’ poster boy Victor Osimhen has had one of his best years yet individually.
The 23-year-old Napoli striker has swept home a couple of awards this year and has established himself as one of the best young out and out strikers on the planet.
He’s already wasted no time in continuing from where he left off last season.
With regards to his style, Osimhen opts only for designers from Burberry to Gucci and LV amongst others, picking his moment and dresses as he pleases.
#4 Terem Moffi
FC Lorient striker Terem Moffi has managed to establish himself as one of the most lethal strikers in Ligue 1.
The 23-year-old forward has had a fiery start to this season scoring 10 goals in 14 appearances for his French club.
Moffi looks destined for a decisive campaign with Lorient if he can keep on firing for Lorient before the end of the season.
His impressive finishing in front of goal also equates to his style off the pitch, opting to follow trends in the most unique way.
#3 Odion Ighalo
2022 was a largely successful year for Odion Ighalo individually.
The 33-year-old striker was the highest goalscorer in the Saudi League with his club Al Hilal notching 24 goals in 31 league appearances.
For the highest-paid Nigerian footballer on the planet, style and class have never been far fetched.
Ighalo has always had the pleasure of showing off his cars, and lavish lifestyle on social media in addition to his exotic simplicity.
#2 Emmanuel Dennis
Emmanuel Dennis' move from Watford to Nottingham Forest this summer might not have gone according to plan so far, but that doesn't take away his immense efforts for the Bees last season.
The 25-year-old striker brought the drip game to us this year from solid colour combinations to sleek matching pants constantly signaling summer's rise.
Dennis passed the drip check on multiple occasions and he's easily one of the most handsome Super Eagles players of all time.
#1 Alex Iwobi
Everton star Alex Iwobi is no doubt ahead of the pack when it comes to fashion and style among the Super Eagles players.
The 26-year-old midfielder helped Everton avoid relegation last season and has been the Toffees' best player this season creating 5 assists and scoring 1 goal in 15 starts for Frank Lampard's side.
Iwobi's style is far from sophisticated but effortless even as he always understands the assignment, with a huge knack for exotic jewellery.
He's one of the most active Super Eagles players on social media, often showing off his workout routines as well as modeling for clothing brands in the UK.
