Ahmed Refaat: Egyptian striker passes on four months after collapsing during a match

Egypt has been thrown into grief after the unexpected loss of striker Ahmed Refaat.

A former teammate of Liverpool superstar Mohamed Salah, Ahmed Refaat, has died at the shockingly young age of 31 after suffering a fatal heart attack during a match.

Refaat, who played as a striker for the Egypt national team and club side Future FC, collapsed on the pitch in the final minutes of a game on March 11 and has been in a coma ever since.

Desperate attempts were made to save the talented footballer's life, but he tragically passed away, leaving the Egyptian footballing community devastated.

A statement from the Egypt Football Association read:

'Our hearts are heavy with grief, but we may find solace in the plans God has for us. We hope that the Almighty God will surround the footballer with his great kindness, place him in His expansive paradise, and give him the grace to be patient and at peace. Our deepest sympathies go out to his family and all Egyptian football lovers.'

Refaat had enjoyed a stellar career, making 211 appearances and scoring an impressive 46 goals as well as providing 40 assists.

The sudden and heartbreaking loss of such a young and promising talent has left the football world in mourning.
