Gombe United were the only home side to drop points while the Promise Keepers, Enyimba and Shooting Stars all registered important wins.
The Promise Keepers are beginning to keep their promise as Enyimba returned to winning ways in the NPFL on Sunday.
There were three home wins and a draw in Group A of the NPFL abridged season on Sunday evening.
Akwa United, Enyimba and Shooting Stars all won their respective home matches while Nasarawa United denied Gombe United at home.
Akwa United 1-0 Plateau United
James Ajako was the hero of the day as Akwa United made it two wins in two in their last two games.
Ajako scored a late winner as the Promise Keepers sealed a narrow win over a stubborn Plateau United in Uyo.
It was a tense battle between the former champions in Uyo but in the end, the Promise Keepers did enough to take all three points.
The win sees Akwa extend their mini-unbeaten run to three matches after two wins and a draw in their last three games.
For the visitors, Plateau United failed to build on their impressive win over Enyimba the last time and have now lost two of their last three matches.
Enyimba 3-0 Kwara United
Former Super Eagles and Ajax Amsterdam superstar Finidi George will be a relieved man after his Enyimba side finally put up an excellent show in Aba.
Chukwuemeka Obioma was the star of the day as the People’s Elephant thrashed Kwara United 3-0 to bounce back to winning ways.
Obioma scored the first and third goals in either half while Ademola Adebambo was also on target for the Elephants in Aba.
A complete performance from Finidi’s men to see them put behind them that defeat in Jos the last time.
Shooting Stars 1-0 El Kanemi Warriors
There was also relief in Ibadan as Shooting Stars finally registered their first win of the season in the NPFL.
The Oluyole Warriors narrowly defeated El Kanemi 1-0 to seal a hard-fought win at the Lekan Salami Stadium.
Before the game, manager, Gbenga Ogunbote had called on his players to make their visitors pay after two defeats and a draw in their opening three matches.
The Oracle will have a smile on his face after his players executed the plan to give his position some relief.
Gombe United 1-1 Nasarawa United
Gombe United rescued a point at home thanks to a late penalty goal scored by Yusuf Taiye.
Nasarawa were on their way to mining three solid points on the road when Chinedu Ohanachom’s 20th-minute goal gave them a 1-0 lead against the 10-man Gombe.
However, the Solid Miners were unable to hold on to the lead as Gombe converted a penalty in added time to deny them two points and ensure a share of the spoils.
What the results mean
In terms of what the results mean, Akwa United sit fourth on the table with seven points, the same as Enyimba, who are third thanks to a superior goal difference.
