With Ahly leading the tie 2-1, the game came to life in the 27th minute when Yahia Attiyat Allah curled home a freekick from the right wing to level the tie at 2-2 and send the capacity home crowd into wild celebrations.

A filled-to-capacity Mohamed V stadium created such an electric atmosphere on Sunday night during the CAF Champions League final second leg as Al Ahly beat Wydad to clinch a record extending 11th CAF Champions League title.

The Moroccan giants went into the break with the lead, but Al Ahly had other plans in the second half, which was to score an away goal, and they did just that with 12 minutes to go.

Mohamed Abdelmonem rose highest to head home left-back Ali Maaloul’s corner to level the game at 1-1 and give the record champions a 3-2 aggregate lead.

The remainder of the match passed in a frenzy of fierce clashes and missed goal-scoring opportunities for Al Ahly on the counterattack.

Still, ultimately, the final whistle confirmed yet another triumph for the Cairo giants, much to the anger and dislike of the Casablanca crowd.

It was also a sweet revenge for the Red Devils, who had lost 2-0 to Wydad in the 2022 final at the same stadium, winning 2-0 on the day.

Al Ahly sits second on the Egyptian Premier League log, just two points behind table leaders Pyramids FC but with six games in hand.

Wydad, on the other hand, sits second in the Moroccan Botola league, one point behind leaders FAR Rabt after 26 games played with three rounds of matches to go.
