Aldrine Kibet's left-footed strike in the 38th minute was enough as Junior Stars registered their second straight win of the ongoing CECAFA u18 tournament in Kisumu.

Elly Owade was the first player to test Rwanda’s resolve when he attempted a left footed shot from outside the box at goal, forcing the goalkeeper Yvan Ruhamyanyiko into making an excellent save in the eighth minute.

The game was certainly even, with both sides struggling to create real inroads in the others’ half, with the game in a state of a damp squib for the majority of the first half.

Rwanda were trying to create chances by targeting their lanky forward with crosses, while Kenya tried to create by looking for their attacking midfielders.

Chances were few and far between in the first 35 minutes, with Elly Owade’s attempt in the opening 10 minutes the only semi-decent attempt at goal when  he attempted a left footed shot from outside the box at goal, forcing the goalkeeper Yvan Ruhamyanyiko into making an excellent save in the eighth minute.

In the 35th minute, Owade had another attempt when Louis Ingavi showed great centre forward play by receiving the ball from Baron Ochieng’s left footed pass into the area before laying it off for Owade, whose resultant attempt failed to find the target.

Kenya did however finally get into the lead in the 38th minute through star midfielder Aldrine Kibet when Sharks midfielder Stanley Wilson drove with the ball into the final third and beating his man before passing the ball to the Spain-based youngster, who then slotted a left footed shot home.

The second half had nothing much to write about as it was characterized by a series of multiple fouls that prevented the game from getting into any sort of rhythm.

In the 81st minute, substitute Humphry Aroko nearly made it two after Tyrone Kariuki, who had been a handful to the Rwanda defence all afternoon, passed the ball to Duncan Oluoch, who laid it off to Aroko, but his shot went straight at the keeper.
