In-form Crystal Palace were stopped on the stride at home by Alex Iwobi and his Everton teammates, but the result does not favour the Toffees.
Crystal Palace saw their mini-winning run under new manager Roy Hodgson snapped by Everton on Saturday in the Premier League.
Nigeria international Alex Iwobi was in action as the ten-man Toffees held the Eagles to a goalless draw at Selhurst Park.
Everton plated the final 11 minutes of the game with ten men after defender Holgate was handed his marching orders following a second yellow card.
However, Everton held on for a share of the spoils that hardly favours them and their quest to avoid relegation.
Iwobi’s effort not enough for Toffees
Despite the lack of goals from both sides throughout the game, Super Eagles star, Iwobi had a decent outing for the visitors.
The playmaker was on the pitch from start to finish and created the most chances in the game, four, with four key passes.
He completed 80% of his passes, attempted two shots, and made six recoveries but failed to complete any of his attempted dribbles in the game.
In the 17th game of the season in the Premier League for the 26-year-old, who has scored just one goal and provided six assists in the league.
Palace’s winning run ends
After three consecutive wins under new manager Hodgson, the Eagles were hoping to extend that run to four when they hosted Everton at the Park.
They dominated the encounter but created few chances with Eberechi Eze coming closest on two occasions to scoring.
His first effort was superbly by Everton’s Jordan Pickford before he finally had the ball in the net but it was ruled out by the VAR for offside.
Despite dropping points for the first time under Hodgson, Palace are on their way to safety having moved up to 13th on the table while Everton have dropped into the bottom three given other results on the day.
