Liverpool defender Trent Alexander-Arnold has likened one of the club’s top players in Jurgen Klopp’s era to Cristiano Ronaldo.
Ex-Liverpool winger Sadio Mane, who graced Anfield for six prolific years and contributed significantly to Liverpool's trophy-laden era, is the player at the receiving end of praises from Alexander-Arnold.
The Senegalese showcased his prowess with 120 goals in 269 appearances and featuring prominently in their formidable attacking trio alongside Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firmino.
Brilliant Mane likened to Ronaldo
Alexander-Arnold, reflecting on his time witnessing Mane's brilliance firsthand, made the bold assertion during an episode of The Overlap.
He lauded Mane as the type of player he's grateful not to have faced on the pitch, emphasizing his multifaceted skill set and likening his athleticism to that of Ronaldo.
"Sadio Mane is the one player that I played with that I’ve always thought, I’m thankful that I didn’t have to play against him," Alexander-Arnold remarked. "He was the perfect attacker, he had everything. As an athlete, he was similar to Cristiano Ronaldo – he had the jump, was fast, could finish both feet, and was a threat at all times."
Mane now teammates with Ronaldo
Mane's journey has taken him from Anfield to the Middle East, where he currently plies his trade alongside Cristiano Ronaldo at Al-Nassr in the Saudi Pro League. After departing Liverpool for Bayern Munich, where his tenure lasted just one season, Mane made the move to Saudi Arabia in 2023. Teaming up with Ronaldo, Mane has continued to showcase his goal-scoring prowess, netting 15 times in the ongoing campaign.
