The Tax Collectors eventually announced on Wednesday evening that Aliro had put pen to paper on a two-year contract running until 2025.

Moses Aliro Okabo has joined URA FC after spending two seasons with fellow Uganda Premier League side Wakiso Giants, the club has confirmed.

It had become clear in recent weeks that the forward cum defender would the Purpler Sharks following the end of his contract with the club.

Tanzanian ginats Yanga SC had interest in Aliro, and even had him feature in a pre-season friendly against Malawi’s Nyasa Big Bullets.

But the club were not convinced during the trial sessions and decided against a permanent deal, with URA jumping to the front of the queue after Yanga’s interest waned.

The Tax Collectors eventually announced on Wednesday evening that Aliro had put pen to paper on a two-year contract running until 2025.

“Aliro Moses Okabo is the latest Tax Collector in the house, it’s official,” the club announced.

“The versatile player joins the club as a free agent from Wakiso Giants FC on a two-years contract,” the club statement added.

The 27-year-old was quick to promise the club that he intends to do all in his power to assist URA win big trophies.

“I am happy to join URA FC and I want to help the club achieve a lot,” Aliro told the club’s media in his first interview.

“It’s a good team with good players and I believe we can together achieve. Personally, I want to help the club win the league and score goals.”

"I thank the management of the club for the trust they have put in me and I can only pay them back with good performances and results,” he continued.

URA’s last piece of domestic silverware came almost a decade ago in 2014, when they defeated KCCA to win their third Stanbic Uganda Cup title.

The Tax Collectors also last won their last league title in 2011, and have finished inside the top two on two occasions since (2012/13 and 2020/21).

Last season, they finished fifth in the league, 11 points behind leaders Vipers SC, after an early season struggle that saw them win only three times in their opening 15 games of the season.

Aliro has rejuvenated his career during his two seasons at the Kabaka Kyabaggu stadium, following a torrid time at KCCA FC who he joined from Arua Doves All Stars.

The forward featured only 28 times for the Kasasiro Boys in two years scoring only one goal and providing one assist.

His first season away from KCCA saw him become a dominant player, scoring nine times and assisting thrice in 29 games for Wakiso.

Last season, saw him contribute three goals and three assists for Wakiso in 23 games, as he was disturbed with recurring injuries.

The Dokolo born is also a regular member of the Uganda Cranes squad and was part of the Cranes team that took part in the 2023 CHAN tournament in Algeria.

He becomes URA’s first senior arrival after teenagers Kisiriko Denis Luzige, Kisolo John Innocent, Amis Bwangani and Godfrey Sekibengo.
