Allardyce will reportedly be on the touchline in Leeds' next game, against leaders Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium on Saturday, and will take on for the remainder of the season.
Allardyce, an undisputed master of securing survival for struggling sides before his previous job at West Bromwich, has been out of coaching since 2021.
He helped each of Crystal Palace, Blackburn Rovers, and Sunderland survive relegation.
He is one of the most experienced coaches in England and has held various coaching roles in 13 different clubs in his career.
Previously, he also coached or managed at Limerick, Preston North End, Blackpool, Notts County, Bolton, Newcastle, Everton and England.
Leeds have tough fixtures remaining to conclude the season, including encounters against Newcastle, Westham and Tottenham Hotspur.
