"We want to win every game that comes our way so that we reach our target of winning gold,” he added.

While he is yet to make his first start at the ongoing African Games with the Uganda U20 team in Accra, Ghana, youngster Alpha Thierry Ssali is convinced the team will battle hard for gold.

Already in the semifinals, the Uganda Hippos take on South Sudan later on Friday at the University of Ghana, and Ssali is keen on maximum results.

The Morley Byekwaso-coached side beat giants Nigeria (2-1) and Senegal (1-0) in the preceding matches to reach the Last Four.

“Defeating Nigeria and Senegal gave us confidence and everyone in camp is fully focused on continuing with the same momentum," Ssali was quoted by journalist Joel Muyita.

"We want to win every game that comes our way so that we reach our target of winning gold,” he added.

About the bout with South Sudan, Ssali warned: "South Sudan is a very good side that we are not undermining and we will come with one target of winning so that we go into the semifinals with perfection."

Meanwhile, Byekwaso was keen on stressing the team's need to fight on despite early progress.

"We have performed well in our first two games but it is not yet over. We have already qualified for the semifinals but that doesn’t mean we will not come with full commitment against South Sudan.”

“Losing against South Sudan can kill the mood in the camp. At the moment everyone is happy, and we want to keep the same energy and attitude.”

Uganda top Group B proceedings with six points, with Nigeria and Senegal following on three apiece, while South Sudan are bottom, having failed to secure a single point.
