The Bayern left back has responded to the critical remarks by Erik ten Hag who accused him of ‘not being a great defender’
FC Bayern left back Alphonso Davies has finally hit back at the critical comments aimed at him by Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag before the two sides faced each other in their opening Champions League game.
The Dutch manager had accused Davies of not being very good defensively, pointing it out as a weakness for Bayern Munich, but his side ran out 4-3 losers to the Bavarian Giants a fortnight ago.
The United boss said: "[Bayern] have Davies, who's very offensive. He has a lot of speed and Pellistri can match that.

STARS ABROAD Omurwa shines as Estrela Amaradora edge past Casa Pia
Johnstone Omurwa's standout performance helps Estrela Amaradora clinch a dramatic late victory, breaking their winless streak and setting the stage for the Kenya-Russia friendly.
"He's got to match that defensively but also in the offense. He has the capabilities to come into the attack. Davies is not a great defender, so yeah I think it's a good day for [Pellistri]."
Davies however, believes that ten Hag was just trying to motivate his players, appearing to suggest that he understood where the United boss was coming from.
“As a coach, I think he said it to motivate his players and I am not sure what he saw but I am not here to say that he was wrong,” Davies said.
“I do have alot of defensive ability. I showed that in the game and it was actually after the game that I saw the interview but at the end of the day, all that matters is that I did my job on the pitch and we got all the three points.”

Asked whether those comments hyped him up to do well against Man United, Davies said he tries to block out criticism and what other players say about him.
“It does not really hype me. It is just that I have to go out there and play my game. I do not really try to get criticism and what people say get to me.
“I go out there and play my game to the best of my ability and yeah.”
Meanwhile, the Canadian international is adamant that Bayern are making excellent strides towards becoming a more cohesive unit after months of being in dissaray
“It is going well. We are getting to stride, we are getting comfortable with each other. Every player has a free head. Some games we go down and we fight back. We cannot really be throwing that too much cause you never know.
“Overall, the fire is there and we just have to keep doing what we are doing right now.”
