America’s Marsch on Super Eagles star
In an interview with CBS Sports’ Golazo, as posted by the Second Tier podcast, Marsch claimed Lookman "stunk" in training while they were both at the German club. Marsch managed Leipzig in the 2021-22 season before taking over at Leeds.
"Ademola Lookman, maybe in Leipzig," Marsch answered after he was asked if he ever had players who he felt stunk in training as a coach.
Lookman played under Marsch at RB Leipzig on loan from Everton in the 2020-21 season. But despite showing flashes of promise, Marsch’s revelation shows Lookman had a poor training ethic at the club.
The former USMNT coach did not hold back in listing other players across the teams he had managed for their perceived lack of effort on the training ground.
Nevertheless, Lookman has since moved on, joining Atalanta BC permanently last summer. The 26-year-old reached new heights at the just concluded AFCON 2023 where he helped the Eagles reach the final.
Lookman was Nigeria’s top scorer with three goals and the most creative star at the competition but could not fire the country to a fourth title after hosts Cote d’Ivoire sealed a 2-1 win in the final.
Meanwhile, Marsch is currently out of management after being sacked by Leeds in February.
