Nigerian legend Emmanuel Amuneke has given his verdict on the Super Eagles' chances of winning the upcoming AFCON in Cote d'Ivoire.

The Super Eagles have secured a spot in next year's African Cup of Nations tournament after topping the table with just one game left.

The Nigeria national team were unable to go past the round of 16 after being beaten by Tunisia in the previous 2022 Afcon tournament hosted in Cameroon.

However, they have a chance to impress and possibly win the competition in Cote d'Ivoire next year.

Amuneke speaks on Super Eagles' chances at AFCON

Emmanuel Amuneke was asked in an interview with Pulse Sports to rate the Super Eagles' chances of winning the upcoming AFCON tournament

The Super Eagles Legend told Pulse Sports, “It is only when you get to Cote d'Ivoire, when you qualify, knowing the group that you belong to, then you can say OK you want to win the AFCON.

“Winning the AFCON is not just by merely saying, it takes a whole series of plans and content.

“When I talk about content, you come up as a coach, you talk about winning the AFCON, you have to ask from a political point of view, what and what do I need to win the AFCON, who are those that I can count on in terms of the players, in terms of materials, in terms of human investment, so there are a whole lot of things to come on board for you to win the AFCON.

“I think the team are doing their best, they are trying to pick a ticket, but of course in football, there is always room for improvement. You can not say because today you are good, that means that's the end, NO.

“You have to be open to learning, you have to be open in terms of having the desire to achieve something. You have to be open to sacrifice, bearing in mind that nothing comes easy.

“Although Nigeria is a country with passion and people in Nigeria are passionate when it comes to football, so if we can remain focused and be honest to ourselves, I think we have players that can achieve that.”

Super Eagles are on track says Amuneke

Amuneke told Pulse Sport that the Super Eagles are doing the right thing by being on track which could help them win next year's AFCON tournament.

Amuneke continued, “The National team, they are on the right track and why am I saying they are on the right track, in terms of ‘game’, they have played some games that will lead them to be in Cote d'Ivoire and today they are topping the group and their next opponent is Sierra Leone so they are on the right track.

“You can't win the AFCON without being part of the event. I think they are doing very well in terms of picking the ticket.

The Super Eagles will welcome Sierra Leone to Nigeria for the last game of the AFCON qualifiers as they prepare ahead of the tournament in Cote d'Ivoire next year.
