Andre Onana insist he wants a fresh start after doping ban

Man United's new signing Andre Onana says that he still has a huge stain on his name after he was banned for doping for 12 months.

Onana was banned from all football activities for a year by Uefa in February 2021 after testing positive for the illegal drug furosemide while playing for former team Ajax.

His punishment was eventually cut to nine months by the Court of Arbitration for Sport after he claimed he accidentally took one of his girlfriend Melanie's pregnancy medications instead of a headache medication.

The goalkeeper who Manchester United signed from Inter Milan for £47.2 million has now said he wants to establish his own "legacy" at Old Trafford.

Onana speaks on doping ban

Onana spoke about the possibility of having a fresh start and being a legend at the club in a recent interview.

Speaking in an interview with The Players’ Tribune as reported by the Sun, Onana said, “Everything I’d worked for had been taken away.

“Andre Onana was banned for taking drugs. Like some addicts. How do you explain that to your family?

“I get it. The law is the law. You f*** up, you pay the price. I paid. But sometimes you wonder, are they punishing you to teach you a lesson, or are they doing it to hurt you?

“The sanction meant I couldn’t go to matches, train with the team, or attend the title celebration at the end of the season — even though I’d played every match until the ban!

“How is that fair? People around me changed. Some disappeared altogether.”

“A lot of people saw the headlines. ‘Onana? Oh, he got banned for taking drugs. He’s a cheat, an addict.

“Even after everything that came out — the CAS statement and the rest — it’s a stain on my name.”

Onana wants to be a Man United legend

The Cameroonian has also said he wants to be a legend at his new club Manchester United during an interview with The Players’ Tribune.

Onana continued, “Now I’m playing again, I want to become a legend — the best goalie in the world.”

Manchester United's new signing Andre Onana recently joined the Red Devils after helping his former club Inter Milan reach the final of the Champions League last season.

Despite his previous record, Onana has claimed that he wants to be a legend and be the best goalkeeper in the world.

The new signing will be in action on Monday in their first game of the season when Manchester United faces Wolves.
